449823 2006-04-26 21:31:00 My 4 yr old daughter uses an insulin pump with a software program that we can use to both upload and download data from the pump via a IrDA-USB cable.
We are having lots of trouble getting the computer to recognise that the pump is within range. The software hasn't passed the "Windows Logo testing to verify its compatibility" but it did work a few times for us.
Now it has been suggested that we deactivate the Windows Firewall to get it to work more easily.
Does this sound like a good idea? or could there be any other options?
Thanks
Jane

449824 2006-04-26 21:40:00 This, The software hasn't passed the "Windows Logo testing just means it hasnt been tested by MS .

It doesnt mean it wont work . Just click on YES/continue to install the drivers for whatever .

No, I wouldnt deactivate the firewall, if its the only firewall you've got . If you're online as well .

If the computer does detect the pump, the firewall isnt the prob . An extension (if the adapter is plugged into the back of the case), might help .

Or if the case has USB ports on the front of the case, plug it in here .

449826 2006-04-27 06:47:00 Thanks for your reply - I hope that log was helpful??
Everytime I plug the IR cable in I hear a noise, but no icon comes up in the taskbar - in my settings for the wireless link - the box to show the icon is ticked. Could this mean the cable is not working?
Hoping for help
Jane.

449828 2006-04-27 07:35:00 Ooooops Sorry - I didn't quite understand ;)
I have reinstalled the drivers and we have had success
It was still a bit touchy, but with the lights off to stop any glare we managed. The icon never came up in the toolbar though - and I had been waiting for that to show - thinking if it wasn't there the cable wasn't working.
Thanks!! :D
