| 449498 | 2006-04-26 03:29:00 | Hey Guy's I have a Compaq 6621AU desktop pc. From what I can tell it currently has two 256mb PC2100 (266mhz) chips in it. I know it can take a maximum of 1gb. I want to buy two 512mb chips & am wondering if I get DDR-400 ram will it just drop down & run at the lower speed?? It's cheapr for DDR-400 than it is from me to get the DDR-266 you see :) Cheers KiwiMR2 |

| 449499 | 2006-04-26 03:43:00 | Hmm I've been in a similar situation with my Compaq Presario 6527NZ. However at that point I was able to find some 266MHz RAM. From my current knowledge PC133 RAM can drop down to PC100 speed and still run fine so I'm suspecting the same should happen for PC3200. I can't guarantee it though so it'll probably pay to stick around and wait for some more answers first too. | technicianxp (6463) | ||
| 449500 | 2006-04-26 03:46:00 | Well that depends on your motherboard and if that can support DDR-400... I have had a look at the specs and it appears to not go above DDR-266... But other wise it will just run at DDR-266 I would think... HTH :thumbs: |
