449502 2006-04-26 02:58:00 Hi there....

Can anyone suggest a good video card to buy without making me broke or at least for a reasonable price to play such games for example: Call of duty expansion, Medal of Honor (Pacific Assault), Splinter Cell (Pandora) to name a few. As I currently use a GeForce4 MX-440 video card and I have purchased these games, but cannot play them because of specs that my video card does not support.

I was surprised, that I could play the first edition of these games, but not any of the expansions, or any other versions that follow on through the series. Anyway, my PC currently supports 8x AGP, but am looking at 128mb for what I can afford, say $60.00 up to 70 or $80.00 (if that’s reasonable to most people)

I've had this card roughly 4-5years now, so I suppose its time to upgrade and I don't know much about video cards, so had to ask. Also I have had a look at Trademe for Video Cards, but from the listings, I still do not know which one could be suited for me or any near future games.

Thanks

449503 2006-04-26 03:13:00 As you have an AGP you will not be able to use the latest video cards.
In fact for $60/$80 you will be very lucky to find any card that will support these games.
Something like a Radeon 9250, Radeon 9250, 128MB, DDR, 8XAGP, TV out, at about $80 seems about the best you will get, but they are probably not up to your games. Check with the game and see what it needs before you start spending

Way over his budget isn't it. And I'll bet the reserve is over the current bid.

From the prices on Pricespy (www.pricespy.co.nz) $80 is the cheapest nVidia card and that is NOT a good gaming card...

Would it be fair enough to say that people who purchase games such as these or the alike, would have to spend roughly $150.00 up?

I'm not a 'heavy gamer user', but do enjoy playing games such as these when the price is fairly reasonable and cheaper 3 to 4 years later after been released and so I do not have to spend $100.00 when it comes out and finish the game within a week!

And in regards to your comment: "As you have an AGP you will not be able to use the latest video cards." Am I mistaken that motherboards supporting 4x/8x AGP were the latest development for any video cards. Then can I ask what do I need to be able to use with the latest cards? Do these have to be PCI?

Thanks for your all responses people.

449508 2006-04-26 05:20:00 AGP was replaced by another form called PCI-e(PCI Express). This is faster, and all cards are cheaper than their AGP equivilents. Plus, the cards using PCI-e are generally newer :) Neongreen (6358)

Maybe. The point was there are decent AGP cards on TM, not that I am going to search through the lot to compare prices. And I recommend at least a 6600GT
