451034 2006-05-01 08:45:00 I want a cheap TV tuner card to capture video and to occasionally watch TV on my PC. I have narrowed my options down to four choices.
LEADTEK DV2000 WINFAST TV/FM TUNER PCI INTERNAL
 SBT-TVFM PCI Capture Card
 MSI Exteral TV Tuner Box VOX USB 2.0
Pixelview PlayTVPro2 - TV Tuner Card
Any advice about the pros and cons of these cards would be appreciated. I have found reviews on some of these cards. But some do not seem to have any reviews on the Internet  .

451035 2006-05-01 08:50:00 The Leadtek range has very good PVR software (killer infact),Never heard of the second one, and I have a personal bias against everything made by MSI.

Personally I would be looking at a card with an intergrated hardware mpeg encoder.

451036 2006-05-01 09:22:00 I agree with Metla, get a TV Tuner card that has hardware mpeg encoding because it makes a huge difference in CPU usage when watching or recording something.
Would also stay away from MSI Vox USB2.0 because if it's anything like their TV@nywhere PCI cards then it will be crap.

I just got myself a Hauppauge PVR500MCE Twin Tuner card to go into my bitsa PVR machine. It has hardware mpeg encoding and can record 2 different channels at the same time and still use less than 50% CPU on a Sempron 2400+.
I'm using Media Portal as the interface to record TV.

451037 2006-05-01 13:19:00 What do the different chipset tell about the quality and the features of a TV Tuner card. Is a card with a Conexant chipset better than one with a Philips? then there are all the confusing numbers that go along with the chipset name such as:
Conexant BT-878 or BT878A or CX23881
Philips TDA8275 or SAA7114 or SAA7135
Does USB and PCI make a difference to the TV\Video capture quality?
As a poor student :nerd: I have a price limit of $85 and of course I want the best card I can get for my money!!!! Any opinions about whether I should buy a TV Tuner from TradeMe or from a shop

What do you think of the "video capture? sound? tv?" quality of this tuner?

451041 2006-05-01 22:17:00 PCI would be better than USB for capturing video .

The Leadtek Deluxe and Expert tuners are good . Never had a prob with them .

Video capture is good . The recorded video, is just as clear as a DVD .

Once its been burned to DVD . (Or even in Mpeg format) .

So, is the sound . The program these tuners come with, are good enough . Lets u record whatever program, then burn it to dvd .

Or burn directly to DVD . I recorded all of Live 8, with the Deluxe tuner here, and then cut it up and burned it to dvd . And recorded Def Leppard a few weeks ago .

451043 2006-05-02 03:30:00 I would definitely recommend the Hauppauge cards, either a PVR-500 (2 tuners) or PVR-150 (1 tuner) are good stuff. Antmannz (6583)
