450229 2006-04-28 06:42:00 Hi all,

I purchased a DSE WLAN 802.11g CardBus Card today. I installed all the drivers and followed the manual etc, but when I put it in my laptop, I get nothing happening. No lights turn on, no new hardware is detected in Windows, or anything like that. The CardBus is turned on in the power management settings, and the PCMCIA adaptor in Device Manager is apparently working fine. I have tried uninstalling the drivers and rebooting my comp with the card plugged in, but it will never detect it at all.
Running XP SP2.

Cheers,

roddy

450230 2006-04-28 07:12:00 Whats the make and model of the laptop, just curious, not that I've seen one that doesn't support 32bit Cardbus for some time.

Do you have any other PC Cards that you use ?

450231 2006-04-28 07:14:00 It's an Acer Extensa 2300, and it does support 32 bit. No, unfortunately, I don't have any other PC Cards. I will try the wireless card on my flatmate's laptop when she gets home to test to make sure it's not the card.
Cheers.

450232 2006-04-28 07:25:00 If it does work in the other laptop try removing everything to do with PCMCIA in device manager and then reboot. gcarmich (10068)
450233 2006-04-28 07:36:00 Maybe it needs to be configured under my network places / view network connections? before it does something? ie: Given an ip address etc.

Did it come with software?? Or will u be using SP2's wireless network setup wizard, to configure it??

With these ones here (USB), its not until I give both ip addresses, that ZA detects them and lets you add them.

450234 2006-04-28 07:43:00 Speedy, he installed the drivers, so yes it came with software, also appears to be a power light on the card if I'm looking at the right one on the dse site. Big clunky thing, I prefer the ones that have pop out arials like some of the 3com cards, less likely to get snapped off. gcarmich (10068)
450235 2006-04-28 07:44:00 Heh, never mind. Found the problem. Tried it in my flatmates laptop, card went in further than on my lappy. So really forced it in, and it works :)
I hate having to force stuff into computers.. :S

Cheers all.

450236 2006-04-28 07:51:00 Nice 1. Don't forget to use the silly little eject buttons as pulling it out by the arial could damage it. gcarmich (10068)
