450157 2006-04-28 00:16:00 Hi,

I have problem logging into the laptop.
HP Presario 2500 laptop running Win XP SP2.

The popup error comes up before the login screen is...

HPWirelessMgr.exe - Application error

The instruction at "0x76b2398c" referenced to memory "0x000000000". The memory could not read.

Click OK to terminate the program.
Click on CANCEL to debug the program.

If i click OK or CANCEL the error windows goes away and computer just hangs. It doesnt do anything. I have tried restarting few times already.

I have tried starting the computer in "safe mode" and "Last know good configuration" and all the options available in the advanced options

Also tried to turn off wireless options on the laptop but it does not turn off...

Nothing seems to work. :(

It is my work computer so i need to copy the files on the hard drive. I only have 1 hdd on the laptop.

So i cannot format before copying the files..

so please help......Any suggestions to fix the error.

450158 2006-04-28 03:24:00 Hopefully someone else will be able to help with this problem as it is beyond my scope but if the worst comes to the worst then you can get your data off the laptop hard drive onto your desktop by using one of these adaptors (www.dragonpc.co.nz). FoxyMX (5)

How did you do this exactly?

Did you disable the "Wireless Zero Configuration" service?

Boot into safe mode.
Right-click "My computer"
Manage
Services And Applications
Services
Stop and disable anything that says "Wireless"

450160 2006-04-28 04:56:00 No. there is a button in front laptop for turning ON/OFF the wireless device.
So i tried to turn ON/OFF but wireless device does not turn off.

Even in the SAFE MODE. i could not log into the computer to access the desktop or any of the files.

450161 2006-04-28 05:00:00 Any error message which refers to memory location 0x0000000 is suspicious. If it is coming from (presumably) software which is known to work it suggests bad memory. memtest86 will let you know. (If you don't have a floppy drive on the laptop, download the .iso file which can be used to make a bootable CD.) Graham L (2)
450162 2006-04-28 05:10:00 Are you trying to log in locally or to a domain using a stored profile? SolMiester (139)
450163 2006-04-28 05:58:00 Assuming it passes the memory test Graham L mentions, and you can't get into the laptop with safe mode, you might need to follow FoxyMX advice, and pull the hard drive and mount it in a PC temporarily, to retrieve the file.

Dick Smith also carries 2.5" to 3.5" IDE converters.

Might want to look for the elusive Hiren's boot cd.
