450220 2006-05-15 07:06:00 It's quite depressing reading pc forums and seeing all the grammatical errors and spelling mistakes. You'd think all the submitters spoke English as a second language!

They call it informal English. Mostly used because people don't want to write novels when trying to outline their technical problem and those replying don't have all day in carefully constructing essays.

Yes, English is my second language ... just after binary

450221 2006-05-15 07:27:00 It indicates that there are very few programmers around. Source code has to be correct. Not just syntactically; spelling variable names correctly is not optional (except in BASIC or most FORTRANs, which just helpfully create extra "used-once variables" for compiler, and wrong results at runtime).

Job control cards also had to be exactly right, too. ;)

...They call it informal English. Mostly used because people don't want to write novels ... Nobody wants novels. What's needed is precision in defining a problem. The logical thought needed to do that can often cause the answer to become obvious. ;)

450222 2006-05-18 11:32:00 If you guys think that too much grammatical errors posted on this forum, I guess many people have problems with English language not to say European people makes mistakes too sometimes, because to some European people English is not their first language like French, German, Spanish, etc. Makes people confused not to mention Asian ppl makes quite a lot of mistakes cause different meaning and their language is different. 450226 2006-05-19 09:47:00 OK guys - leave it alone please. Pointing out someone's grammatical or spelling errors tends not to go down well, especially if it is nit-picking so it is best left alone ...

This is a computer forum after all ...
