450638 2006-04-30 10:55:00 Are you sure that it is not the firewall? Doesn't SP2 turn the firewall on by default? johnd (85)
450639 2006-04-30 11:49:00 When I click the red shield icon on the bottom the firewall say it is disabled or "off".

I formatted it now and its fine without any SP. Network is working on auto nego, auto IP config. I have old Ghost so need to think of a newer one or get some freeware to clone my HDD as my current NG does not clone NTFS from WinXP or maybe I have a SATA. It used to clone a ATA HDD in win2k NTFS without issues. Then I can try my luck again with SP2 or SP1 (not tried this one) if not I can reload the image file.

Took me 1.5hrs to redo the HDD. They only use the main proggies like virus, spyware, firewall, office, acrobat, winzip, DX, motherboad, DVD player and writer etc.

When I uninstalled Sp2 it says error 711, 5, 1068, I went online and Micro crap says, I have to reinstall SP becos uninstall or restore function did not restore all the files correctly. Well that is a no holes say.

450640 2006-04-30 12:12:00 We do not have any of these devices yet .

For WinXP, USB 2 devices need SP1 right? What about wifi and bluetooth and firewire?

Thanks for your help .

450641 2006-04-30 13:20:00 Default gateway for the networked pc should be 192.168.0.1 not 192.168.0.2

Where do you get that from????

The gateway IP is the IP that is attached to the internet. It could be a PC or like in my case it is the IP of the Router and that is 192.168.0.254

The Workgroup name does not matter either as long as they are the same.

Well, I wasnt replying for your benefit was I .

I was replying to Nomad, who uses dialup . In which case, wouldnt use a router .

So, would use 192 . 168 . 0 . 1 as the gateway . If its a networked PC .

And on dial-up, thats what the preferred DNS and alternate DNS server ips are for .

The ips for the ISP .

Nah . IP's could be 192 . 168 . 10 . 253 and 254 (or whatever you want within reason) doesn't matter for dialup or a router as long as the default gateway is pointing to the right IP . His setup is/was fine .

Thats true . It depends on, whether he uses ICS in XP, or that Analogx program for ICS .

If he wants the networked PC to get on the net . In which case, it'll change to 192 . 168 . 0 . 1 if u enable ICS under the dialup .
