| 450199 | 2006-09-09 23:57:00 | Had a lot of difficulty setting up my Woosh home network but have managed to solve it. Have to point out that I have previously set up home networks with other broadband providers and never had this much difficulty. Because the Woosh system is different from others they really should focus more on support. It turns out my solution was simple and could have been quickly sorted out with the right support. Ok, so I'm using a linksys wireless G router version 2 and connecting to Woosh with a LAN cable rather than the USB option. I've got one computer connected by cable to the router and a couple of others connected by wireless. I didn't really focus on it before but I've now realised that the Woosh equipment is really two items- a modem and a gateway. It's important to remember what you're connecting to. So first I connected my computer directly to the Woosh gateway, without going through my router. There was no problem connecting to the Internet. Then the fun started. I plugged my computer into the router and connected the gateway into the router as well. Nothing. I called Woosh. The first guy told me to go to the router setup page. 192.168.1.1 on mine, other routers will be different. Change to PPPoE, add user name and password made when I first started the account and change the MTU setting to 1458. No success. I called again. The second guy said the user name should be in the form of an email address user@woosh.co.nz. He also gave me the DNS addresses. DNS 1 is 202.74.207.10, DNS 2 is 202.74.207.100. These are important and it's strange the first guy didn't tell me them. But success? No. The third guy gave me the final vital piece of info. If the router is connected to the Woosh gateway then no settings are required. The Woosh gateway does all the work. If the router is connected directly to the Woosh modem then all the settings mentioned above are required. I love playing with settings so I connected to the modem and it worked perfectly. I don't know if the router will work connected to the gateway without the settings. But why not tell me all this straight off. Or better yet, put this in one of the bright green booklets we get given. Woosh says they don't support home networking, yeah but all ISP's have to give users basic setup info to get a connection. No connection, no customers Woosh! |
