450827 2006-04-30 02:45:00 Hi, i am hoping someone can help me here. I went to start the PC and nothing
happens, so i undone the side and noticed that when i pressed the start button the cpu fan starts to spin and as soon as i take my finger off the button the fan stops spinning.
Anyone got any thouhts what it could be, doing this ?

450828 2006-04-30 02:48:00 Sounds like the on/off button is sticking, which can happen.

If you've got an ASUS mobo, go into the BIOS, and change it, so it turns on with the space key, or other key. It saves u pressing the power on/off button all the time.

It saves u pressing the power on/off button all the time. if i remeber correctly to power on from keyboard you need to change the jumberon the mobo (may not apply to all mobo's) and you need a power supply that can supply enough currant on the 5vsb line. its written in the manual. even big grunty powersupplys don't often have high enough standby currunt to run it.

i would try just shoting the pwr on pins on the mobo and see if it starts. if it dosn't start it could be a power supply problem or mobo/cpu/ram problem.

450830 2006-04-30 03:12:00 Thanks Speedie,
Its an EPOX board, can't get it started to look in the BIOS though, i took the wire connections off and put a screwdriver across the pins and it starts up with more force but still not enough to get it going properly. ???

450831 2006-04-30 03:16:00 in that case try new PSU.

small thing...try hitting the reset button first. also reset bios i've seen a few system that won't start because bios battery has gone flat and the bios gets a little "glitchy".

Thats true. But most of the recent ASUS mobos do.

I've got it configured on the 2 here. Works fine when you press the space bar. And easier to turn them off. When the keyboard has a power off button on it.

You dont have to touch the on/off button at all.

These PSU's arent that grunty. Only 400W.

450834 2006-04-30 08:01:00 I have been doing a bit of part swapping and at least i know now that the power supply was ok, i think i have found the problem, i just noticed that the battery case was cracked and the battery is a little loose inside it, so far i can't seem to do much to be able to fix it, i suppose ya can't replace it or anything, at a pc shop ??? Tontoe (9961)
450835 2006-04-30 08:34:00 pc shop might be able to fix it. otherwise find a electronics repair person and take the motherboard and replacement battery holder to them. tweak'e (69)
