Laptop hard drive speeds come in 4200rpm, 5400rpm, and 7200rpm flavours with the 4200rpm being the most common in the cheaper lappies from what I have read. The more expensive flaptops would have 5400rpm drives and the top, upper range probably have 7200rpm drives.

It pays to check the specs carefully to ensure you get what you want but you will have to pay for it.

451528 2006-05-03 02:54:00 For those wanted to upgrade to a faster drive, it's worth checking the temperature. There's calibrated stickers which can show the maximum temperature reached. Faster usually means hotter. kingdragonfly (309)

And also noisier. Some people have also remarked on the extra vibration from faster laptop drives.
