2006-05-02 10:51:00 | I am connected to Xtra ADSL via a Globespan modem, i have just started to get a constant barrage of "dial up boxes" appearing, says it is trying to connect?? | jimstewart (10338) | |
2006-05-02 10:59:00 | What is trying to dial up? A previous dial-up connection? If so, Control panel / Network Connections, then delete your previous dial-up connection. If it isn't a previous connection, it's more than likely spyware, in which case I suggest you download hijackthis (www.merijn.org), from here (www.spywareinfo.com). Unzip this file, then run it and click on scan and save a log. Copy and paste the log back in the forum. (lol stolen from Speedy's sig :p )

2006-05-02 11:45:00 | Might be your ADSL connection dropping every now and then. Are you using Internet Explorer? If so, Tools, Internet Options, Connections Tab, Check "Never dial a connection" I don't think spyware is the problem No, neither do I any more. Just thought it may have been a dialer.

Just thought it may have been a dialer. that won't work, its an internal modem and works the same as older style modem. I have checked spyware, nothing there, its really bizzare!! Only does it in IE or Outlook (not in Firefox) I spoke with Telecom (after waiting one hour!!!!) they thought it was my nortons, not that either. |

2006-05-02 23:43:00 | What's an internal modem? Your ADSL modem, or your dial up modem? If IE and Outlook are trying to dial up connections, following the steps above will stop them from doing so. | roddy_boy (4115) | |
2006-05-02 23:47:00 | that won't work, its an internal modem and works the same as older style modem. ??? roddy boy was right on the nose. internal adsl modems dailup just like 56k modems do. turn the auto dail off first. whats written in the dailup boxes, any phone numbers etc ? what else has access through your firewall?
