451444 2006-05-02 10:28:00 I have a friend whose dial up connection stalls after 5-10 mins. I am working my way thru isolating where the problem might be. Have tried a new modem and no difference. Maybe someone could look at the log for me to see if its something in the system? Tomorrow night I'll try what I should probably have done first and take a laptop over and try it on her line to see how it handles it. This is only a recent problem so suspect something has got in? bones (10257)

451447 2006-05-02 14:09:00 The log looks fine to me.

However, I would install a firewall, and a AV program.

Is this all of the log??

The services seem to be missing.

451448 2006-05-02 20:34:00 Thats all that came up. I thought it was a bit short myself. bones (10257)
451449 2006-05-02 23:02:00 I would try Spybot (www.spybot.info)

Download the main program, and the detection updates. Then do a scan.

See if it picks anything up.

Nothing is conflicting in device manager, is it?? Anything showing a X or !??

451450 2006-05-03 08:50:00 She has tried Spybot & AdAware. Had trouble with Zone Alarm a while ago. (Since been un-installed). I'm starting to think its just the line. Connection speeds can be very low. Everything seems to go fine until you try to go back in IE before the page has finished loading (or maybe just a coincedence). She swears there is a timer in it that gives her 3 minutes and thats it. bones (10257)
451451 2006-05-03 10:17:00 When u say its stalling, does it just disconnect?

It doesnt freeze the system completely?

She could try ringing telecom (123 / 128 i think) and get them to check for line noise .

If the connection speed is low, line noise on the line maybe causing this .

Under the dialup properties, get her to go to the options tab .

Change idle time before hanging up to never, then OK .

She isnt checking email, when she gets disconnected is she?? There's an option in Outlook Express (if she uses this), to stop it from hanging up after checking email .

451452 2006-05-03 10:27:00 No, doesn't disconnect as such. On a clean boot when you dial up, the connection indicator lights in the task bar are just about continuously on. Then after 3-10 mins they sort of die. One will flash a bit every 20 secs but doesn't seem to get an answer.Thats the impression it gives anyway. Its as tho all of a sudden one side decides not to answer. I'll get her to get the line checked anyway. Thanks bones (10257)
451453 2006-05-03 10:29:00 Forgot to say. When the connection "dies" if you disconnect and redial its still no good, but if you reboot all comes right again(for a while) bones (10257)
