451236 2006-05-02 00:28:00 I currenty have win 98 running on an 8G HDD. I am planning on buying a 120 G (Westeren Digital i think) HDD and installing this. I am going to rip out the old one and do a clean install on the new drive. I know 98 doesn't support a drive this size, how do i go about getting windows to recognise it?
Do i intially do the install on the new drive and then run a disk manager of some kind for it to recognise the full size or do i have to perform some kind of format prior to installing windows,

thanks

451237 2006-05-02 00:40:00 you need to make sure that the motherboard will work with it. check your motherboard manafacturs site for info on any bios limits.

provided bios is ok you can simply partition it to get around any win98 (fat32) limits. i would partition it reguardless, 120 gig is a major pain to maintain on an older system.

451238 2006-05-02 00:47:00 137GB is the Windows 98 inherent limit, but you also need some updates like fdisk for large HDD, as well as checking your BIOS will cope as Tweake says.

There is a handy collection of Microsoft updates for Win98 /98SE here:

Or you can search on MS site.
