452288 2006-05-05 07:35:00 I want to upgrade from Telecoms 1 PC adsl modem to a wireless system. What I have been looking at is a Linksys WRT54gs and I am wondering if it will work in a 2 story house. The house setup would be if you imagine 4 equal boxes 2 on the bottom and 2 on the top, the unit would be in the bottom right box and the wireless PC in the top left box. Is this going to work? 452289 2006-05-05 09:15:00 Recently used my Belkin ADSL modem with built-in wireless at my daughter's house with the layout you describe plus an extra room in between.
In addition there was a reinforced brick wall between the modem and a connected notebook PC.
Worked perfectly.

452290 2006-05-05 10:13:00 the wireless network at my school uses wrt54gs's and the signal reaches from the building next to the soccer field right to the other side -- a good 50 metres or so --- it should be fine ;) Dannz (1668)

The ones I get stuck with I now use this product:
www.pbtech.co.nz

It allows you to connect another access point in another part of the building, and use the power circuit in the house to network the 2 together. It works excellently, with zero configuration required.

I'd be more worried that the neighbours can grab your signal by all accounts - and watch out for the local war drivers
