451887 2006-05-04 01:07:00 I fairly know how to get around computer problems, but this is driving me nuts. I can't seem to figure out how to save streamed media on windows media player. The player loads off the webpages which is http, so I downloaded stream downloading software such as HiDownload. Still no luck and the software is hard to use, I don't even know if I fully had it figured out. Please someone tell me there is a relatively easy way to download streaming video from a webpage? Maybe it is set up so you can't download it. Who knows? Hopefully someone here. Thanks a lot for any help. pcboy (10348)
451888 2006-05-04 01:38:00 It's possible that your software ain't smart enough. Some streams can be encrypted, in which case you'll need to know how to decrypt them, or reverse engineer the code.

Probably what you're trying to achieve ain't legit anyway, so you might have to look a lot further afield to get support on this issue.

451894 2006-05-04 06:30:00 Hi pcboy. Put the Google toolbar on your browser window. Every time you see anything you are unsure of or that looks interesting either type it in or cut and paste in and ...... Scouse (83)
451895 2006-05-04 06:52:00 One answer to why you cant download an actual audio or video file that is streamed is that the file is in a protected directory that cannot be accessed directly. What you click on is just a link to the actual file.

So, as others have implied the stream has to be re-encoded if you want a copy of it, using a program such as Windows Media Encoder, or whathave you.

451896 2006-05-04 19:07:00 Ok, so I have to use somekind of windows software to encode it. I downloaded SDP and tried it like everyone said. It doesn't work, along with other players I've tried. Here is an example (I know you can use another link to save, but this is just an example)

www.ebaumsworld.com

I paste that url to the open tab on SDP and it says that it's invalid. I've even tried HiDownload too. Can someone figure out this ebaumsworld problem. Thanks for all the responses by the way.
