451793 2006-05-05 08:28:00 Yes it is complete drivel.
The games only do a CD check when you first launch it. IT doesn't then access the CD again. So whats the drivel you mentioned about CD Reading being slow?

And as for how many games are on your PC, so? You only play them one at a time - tell me how you play several at once?

Everyone uses this excuse, its been heard a thousand times.

Starforce and most modern forms of copy protection look for the CD and at the integrity of the EXE files multiple times during gameplay, Plus loading time can be increased by 2 or 3 minutes depending on the game as it verifies the CD in the drive.

That aside, any CD drive no matter how good the brand is only for a certain amount of spins, 99 percent of its life is wasted spinning up and spinning down game cd's so you can prove your not a theif, How would you feel if everytime you switched on your TV you had to spend 3 minutes proving its yours?

Apart from wear and tear on the hardware, widespread issues repoted on peoples PC's (incuding permanent hardware failure), no accoutability on the part of the copy protection deveoper, The fact that I do have to get off my fat arse and find find a damn cd I just flat out don't like to be inconvinienced by crap that doesn't affect the people they are trying to stop, Copy protected games are available to download right along side games without any copy protection.

The gaming companies should be looking after their customers, Not treating them like theives, all the while their non-customers who all this crap is directed at dont give a rats arse and can play the games with no issue. Its allready at the point where its safer and easier to use a cracked/pirated version, even after purchasing the full game.

The amount of money I spend on games in a year has dropped massivly due to all this crap, The fact that it doesn't bother some doesn't mean its not a legitimate gripe.

451794 2006-05-05 08:29:00 This whole thread is really pushing rule #4 (the one about not discussing warez).

I'd help someone out who has a problem with their game working with their CD/DVD drive, usually due to very silly/buggy CD protection, but just being lazy is really dodgy. Pressed (i.e. not writeable) CDs/DVDs don't get that so badly scratched they won't work - I'm terrible at keeping things tidy and all my game CDs are just fine.

I do understand if you have kids using the CDs though..

Have you read the .NFO file ? ;)

People who own consoles don't mention this as a problem, most I know seem to proudly display their shelves of CD cases....

Maybe the mods need to clarify the rules? Is bypassing CD copy protection a topic that is not allowed?

Perhaps due to the fact that the console games are on the CD?, a cd crack wouldn't exactly help would it?

One of the bonuses of PC gaming has always been that the game is installed on the HD, faster loading, Instant gaming, Now its encumbrered with some of the same restrictions as if the game was launched from the CD .

451796 2006-05-05 08:49:00 Hmm, forgot to mention about consoles. You know why I don't but consoles? 1.Here's the deal, to lazy to insert the disc and find it.
2.Why do you need to find it? It's being place in the other area not near the computer but upstairs, and you know fat people are lazy to do this type of stuff. Plus my CD's are at the top stairs which all CD's are kept there because of limited space in house.
3.I only play games that are convinient for me. Like PC's with no CD/DVD required.
4.Need to do excercise? No, cause too dam lazy.
Ask fat ppl about this stuff.

For pirated games, where can you get these games from? Download where? ftp:// web? No they don't have it. Plus it is illegal to download full version games. Crack? Illegal too I guess but easy for lazy ppl.

ppl= people.

Starforce does. Most others don't which is why the No-CDs work for them.
If these sorts of posts were true I might be more sympathetic but I suspect that most are not.

451800 2006-05-05 09:51:00 Yep, longer than Midtown Madness, and NFS-MW and other games like that.

Sometimes even CD error "Please Insert the CD".
Some of you guys might be right by stop buying games with StarForce protection and so games companies won't use them.;)

I've tested it.

What are you saying isn't true?

anyhow, If you look into how the games are cracked the security checks are littered through out the game, Not just in Starforce, Its just easier to fool other forms of protection.
