Could it be a rip off a branded camera? Get a pic up, someone might reconnise it for annother brand, thus trying that driver.

452581 2006-05-06 06:45:00 Obviously, it isnt driverless
Too true - all hardware must have drivers to interface between the hardware and the operating system - the question is whether the driver is supplied as part of the operating system or has to be installed separately.

452582 2006-05-06 06:53:00 well i found the download link, downloaded 1824setup.exe (2.11mb), ran and installed USB PC-CAM 168. restarted. same problem. the setup doesn't correspond to the found new hardware problem :S. when i open the program it says no video capture device detected. maybe its not a driver. or i didn't install it correctly :S

Did you try pulling the cam out first, install this file, then reboot?

Then plug the cam back in??

What program are you talking about??

May I suggest you put the camera where it belongs. In the tip maybe!

Personally I have just loaded Copernic Agent on my new rig which I wanted to do anyway and spent the last half hour looking for a driver that will work for you. I didn't manage to find one given the information I found through this thread.

Now a quick search gave me this link:-
www.dse.co.nz

It may not be the webcam for your needs but at least it comes with WinXP drivers. You might also think about local support.l

How much time have you spent looking for a driver to make this webcam work?

Assuming you work how much do you value your time?

If you work at youth rates you can probably get ~ $7.50 - $8.50 an hour.

Your time is valuable so use it wisely. I got a pro in to sort my TVs and Video out and tune it and it cost me $40.00. He did a good job and everything works. He was here 2 1/2 hours. In the meantime I put a computer together and had the O/S installed. I had not finished by the time he left as I was downloading updated drivers.

452586 2006-05-06 07:54:00 not a bad idea. after finding the driver i encountered a new problem....it looks very blurry
completely out of focus! and it looks like theres a big water stain on part of it
jamesyboi (6579)
452587 2006-05-06 07:59:00 Some cams have a focus ring on them. See if this one has one. Speedy Gonzales (78)
452588 2006-05-06 08:15:00 ring? the cam appears to have no controls on itself. and in the app provided with the driver that took me 4 hours to find under the name of VMICRO USB PC CAMERA and 380k Pixel Metal Webcam on www.usboem.com

thank you everyone except jimbo for your support (just kidding tim). i put the cam in the hot water cupboard for tonight to see if that fixes the problem if its to do with moisture. the house it was in is pretty cold and there is rust on the spring.
