453201 2006-05-09 03:24:00 You have a good budget for a PC. Any number of PC vendors could happily build you a moderately spec'd PC.

You can easily get into diminishing returns. For example you won't wouldn't notice much difference between an AMD 64 X2 4400+ and a 4800+, or an Intel D 940 and 950.

As far as RAM, make sure your completed system has a couple of free slots. 512MB / 1GB is probably enough to get started.

It's worth investing in a good video card, say $200 or better.

Hope this helps.

Just kidding, I only assemble for my listed clients . Forget any recommendations for QMB - they are one of many crappy little PC shops . (I've had like 20 complaints with QMB) Try Compulink, Grafton or even PB Tech, Penrose - not cheap, but they do proper invoicing on computer, not like scribbling them on a bit of paper .

453204 2006-05-11 09:40:00 I brought a mid spec PC 3 months ago from E-one computers in Manukau (opposite The warehouse) for 1600 cash. Has 512RAM, Multi function Printer, 16 x DVD Writer, Pent 4, 3 GHz CPU, etc. Check out their website, of which they often have draw prizes for purchases... kahawai chaser (3545)
