| 453022 | 2006-05-08 01:10:00 | Hi all - For some time now Ive been experiencing very slow (even send errors) email deliveries, generally at night, with Thunderbird (1.0.7). Im currently on dial-up with Slingshot, have checked with them & they say servers are fine, no problems. Emails receive fine, and web mail is fine, as is web access - only data uploads are affected eg last night I had problems sending so saved the emails as drafts, resent them this morning and they went in seconds - no delay at all. Have checked XP Pro Firewall & my AV - disabled both but no difference. Also went through full clean boot with MSConfig, dumping everything except the essential MS services - still no joy. Tried Outlook again just in case - it stalled on delivery too. A while back I had access to Orcon broadband and the problem was still there even then. So the problem is unlikely to be a software one on my PC - I see others on TBird & MSO forums with similar complaints, but few answers. If its not the ISP, is it lines, telco, exchanges? It definitely appears to be related to internet traffic. Whatever, it is damnably frustrating. Anyone got any ideas, or experiencing similar problems? Bazzaw |

| 453023 | 2006-05-08 01:41:00 | Someone just rang me about slow connections with Slingshot. They told her it wasn't them. Perhaps you shouldn't believe them. | pctek (84) | ||
| 453024 | 2006-05-08 01:44:00 | What mail providers are you sending to? e.g. hotmail? / Yahoo? / Xtra / orcon? etc
Have you tried sending mail during the day? Can you post a copy of the error messages you are getting? Have you tried a different mail client? I.e. Outlook Express PS: Welcome to PressF1 bazzaw :) |

| 453025 | 2006-05-08 12:09:00 | Ta folks . Who am I sending to? That varies widely, a lot to CRI domains, xtra, overseas, even tried sending to my alternate S/Shot address . Tonight things are humming again . . . . last night horrors . Generally Tbird will pause for ages on 'connecting to', 'connected to' and 'delivering mail' - a simple 2-5kb message can take several minutes to go . Tweakmeter shows small packages going with large timeouts in between . Other times I can shunt a 6-700bk attachment up the line at 5-6Kb/sec, maybe more, in one big data block . If an error message does occur, it is just that email failed to send - server could not be contacted or similar . Other clients? Yes - tried Outlook (not OE) with similar results - If Tbird is stuttering, so is Outlook seemingly . Yet in all cases incoming mail connects immediately, as does web etc . All the Dial up settings are right, no untoward bugs or greeblies I am aware of - machine is pretty clean that way . Did wonder about the ISP blocking default Port 25 - seems a lot do, but changing it to 2525 didnt help . The timing thing (often worst at night when local traffic is highest) is a clue, but S/Shot denies any problems at their end (and web mail IS fine, both in & out) . The same delays happened while I had the broadband link, but when it did connect, data moved fast so disguising the problem somewhat . "Welcome to PressF1 bazzaw" - ta stu161204 . . . . actually have been around before, long time reader of the mag & a few contributions . Old registration had crashed so had to renew . Cheers |

| 453026 | 2006-05-08 12:09:00 | Hi, Bazzaw. I'm with Slingshot, I find no fault on their part with the odd slow email I get. One source, noteably from the South Island. Without sounding too cloak and daggar about it, I'd suggest that you look for the fault elsewhere. It takes time for the employees under a white dome at the top of the south to scan selected mail from selected people, the selections made, well, are best known to themselves. So take care about what you say in an email, or indeed in any chatroom. Eef2. |

| 453027 | 2006-05-08 12:26:00 | Ta Eef2 .... Just wish I could pinpoint it. Generally I find S/Shot is great - no real gripes there & intend to go broadband with them shortly. I tend to think maybe its closer to home - telco or an exchange problem, but that will be nigh impossible to troubleshoot. My son is a telco tech & has checked the lines - all clear apparently. Still, I find similar experiences on other email client forums, so not alone in that regard. Just have to keep sleuthing I guess. Bazzaw |

| 453028 | 2006-05-11 00:06:00 | Well - touch wood, but email sends are behaving themselves again over past few days. Nothing altered here, but have been in touch with ISP Support again so .... ????? Still none the wiser, but a lot less frustrated. | bazzaw (10368) | ||
