2006-05-07 08:32:00 | Greets all, Been a while since Ive had to make a post, mostly its just cleaning up ;) Anyways.... Familys PC had this problem, we reformatted when changing motherboard / cpu and we're back with the same problem after using it for a few days. Basically the network drives dont work. They were previously mapped fine and worked no problem. It is NOT a permissions issue because I know the xbox can connect to MY PC fine without username/password. So anyways, on the familys PC when i try and open the Mapped Network Drives in My Computer I get the error: An error occured while connecting to \\192.178.0.7\shared Microsoft Windows Network: The network location cannot be reached. This connection has not been restored Or if I try and type in \\192.168.0.7\ into the My Computer address bar I get: Windows cannot find \\192.168.0.7. Check the spelling and try again or try searching for the item.... .... Now I KNOW its fine coz I can access the shares from other PCs on the LAN here, and I can also ssh / scp / http / ftp into my PC fine from the familys, so I dont understand why the familys PC wont like the shares :( No firewalls present except the standard windows one Suggestions? Cheers Chill.

2006-05-07 09:10:00 | It sounds like something isnt working on the PC you formatted. Someone did reinstall the drivers for the NIC on this, didnt they? Or the NIC is dead? Have you tried another NIC (PCI NIC)?? Was it a folder someone created?? then shared? Did someone manually enter the ip address in for this PC that was formatted? If this PC is connected to the rest of the network, are the LEDS on the back of it lighting up?? If you're using a hub, try another port?

2006-05-07 09:24:00 | Nah, its happened both times, before and after the format. No idea about the NIC drivers, good point, will check. Seems VERY odd that ssh traffic etc works fine. It WAS a PCI card (cheapo RTL8139 from DSE) but now is the onboard one on the mobo. If you have a look again: The problem is my familys PC accessing network shares on other PCs I know its not a problem with MY PC coz mines a linux box and ive disabled the permissioning. The Xbox can also access my PC fine. Shouldnt matter about the familys IP address because it can access the other PC fine, just not through SMB. So its not the network, networking is fine, it looks like something wrong with SMB. I know what lights and things are, again, follow through the chain of thought coz they're not terribly relevant ;) Like i said, scp & http from the familys PC to mine work perfectly! Thanks for the idea about the drivers though, cant hurt to check it out i spose

2006-05-07 09:28:00 | So it was working for a few days after the format? I'd start with the replacing the NIC. | berryb (99) | |
2006-05-07 10:04:00 | Why? Had the same problems BEFORE the format, BEFORE the motherboard was changed (And I HAD a PCI NIC before)... | Chilling_Silence (9) | |
2006-05-07 11:25:00 | Missed your second post. Agree unlikely the NIC. Must be SMB issue. | berryb (99) | |
2006-05-07 11:42:00 | New motherboard doesnt have nvidia firewall by any chance? I would also kill the standard windows firewall. One issue I had with SMB (samba I assume) was that it used port 139 as well as another I couldnt find, and it kept getting blocked by Firehol.

2006-05-07 13:56:00 | I believe there IS an nvidia graphics card installed, not an nvidia LAN card though... | Chilling_Silence (9) | |
2006-05-07 20:20:00 | Whats the brand/model of the new mobo?? | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |
2006-05-09 08:07:00 | Still having problems after playing around a lil with the LAN drivers. Will post the model number of the mobo later tonight :)
