452604 2006-05-06 05:41:00 Did you burn this XP CD yourself??

I think this error means something is corrupt on the CD.

Did you install any hardware recently?

Were you overclocking?

IF not then suspect the CPU.

452606 2006-05-06 05:48:00 The CD's worked before. Also tried Mandrake 9.2, but it has no error message, just hangs.

I've replaced my motherboard because old one had fried capacitors.

No overclocking. But I'm not sure of the frequency ratio thing int he bios setup. Left to default.

Eeehk, sorry, I don't understand that link . Full of jargon .

CPU is detected . Though while installing on the motherboard, I noticed the gell stuff that sits betwen the CPU and the heatsink has melted away .

So CPU is flush with the heatsink . Nothing in between .

452608 2006-05-06 05:56:00 Hmm it sounds like its hardware then. If windows doesnt boot, and linux hangs.

See if putting the cd rom on another ide connection helps?

452609 2006-05-06 05:59:00 Its a "MicroATX" only have 1 for hdd and 1 for cdrom.

What are you suspecting is the problem. New motherboard or harddrive?
JimboJones (1680)
452610 2006-05-06 06:05:00 Sounds as though you have at least 2 things wrong :)

1. Replaced motherboard, transfered cpu and heatsink from old one without cleaning off old gunk and adding new thermal paste.

2.Trying to restart with new motherboard and old hard drive that was set up for previous motherboard.

Am I assuming too much?????

452612 2006-05-06 06:14:00 1. Yeah, where do I get new paste?

2. How do I configure the hdd for new motherboard? Couldn't re-install windows.
