2006-05-12 15:52:00 | Its worked previously with the mapped drives, they're still *mapped* but just disconnected. Nothings changed on my PC, i know this for certain. so its the desktop PC Subnet is 255.255.255.0, IP is 192.168.0.8 No conflicts in IPs, Gateway / primary DNS = 192.168.0.1

2006-05-13 04:09:00 | Have you done as Rob99 suggested and unmapped the shared drives and remapped them? :D | Graham L (2) | |
2006-05-13 06:38:00 | I did with one of them, and it didnt work... I have like 6-7 shares on from the family PC mapped to my linux box... Gave me an error it couldnt find it, something or rather similar to that, il try again later :)

2006-05-14 14:10:00 | Ive tried a few other things today, havin a fluff around, disabled the windows firewall, nothing... un-installed and re-installed the LAN card from Device Manager, nothing... Its becoming a real pain having to use WinSCP to copy files from the familys PC to my desktop just so I can use them on the xbox (Xbox works fine grabbing the pics off the share on my desktop...)

2006-05-16 22:08:00 | Change the IP to 192.168.0.XX (xx being something random). then try to ping the other computer. when you can ping the other computer you will be able to see the network drives | hoppo829 (10362) | |
2006-05-20 03:42:00 | Wrong I can, Ive tried a static IP and a DHCP address. Read back through what Ive written: I CAN ACCESS THE OTHER MACHINE FINE. Its only SMB, other things like scp/ssh/http work between the two without a worry, and I know that SMB is setup fine because my xbox and my brothers box can get to My Desktop fine. Its JUST the familys PC and its JUST SMB (Windows file sharing). Thanks Graham, just tried that, familys PC is still not happy and not working. Tried installing another NIC just in case it was some Windows-firewall-related setting to just that one, no joy either, so I took it out and im back to just the onboard. Seems like the logical outcome but I had to try just to be sure Thanks guys for all the suggestions to date, keep 'em coming, im more and more anxious to get this resolved. Cheers Chill.

2006-05-24 12:35:00 | Ive just noticed that the CD-Writer drawer has a tendancy to like to close itself. I noticed this not long before I did my last format. Thought nothing of it (faulty hardware came to mind) until I booted a Live Linux CD just earlier and it didnt do that. Was able to map to the network share on my own desktop without any permissions. 100% a configuration issue now. Just not too sure about what thou... ran a spyware check, came up pretty clean with one or two cookies flagged but thats about it

2006-05-24 13:16:00 | try net use * /d. then remap.

2006-05-24 13:30:00 | Thats all fine and dandy, its removed them all now... Tried re-mapping with net use z: \\192.168.0.7\external After asking for a username (to which I just pressed Enter) it said: System error 1223 has occurred. The operation was cenceled by the user. Sooo... One thing that I _did_ notice was that in My Computer all the drives WERE showing the "connected" icon as opposed to with the "x" to say it couldnt re-connect?! Odd indeed!
