| 452836 | 2006-05-07 03:44:00 | Why not grab this and try it out, saves a lot of hassle: exuberant.ms11.net are only for 98SE .. this is just 98 original. I have 98SE on disc but thats installed to my partners computer Speedy: jumpered correctly, checked and double checked. Graham L: forgot to mention, each time I ran Seatools, also did the mem test within it. As well, I ran memtest .. no errors |

| 452838 | 2006-05-07 06:23:00 | Download some of the updates from the MS site (www.microsoft.com) and install them. See if it does the same thing. Another thing, is the virus option enabled in the BIOS?? I wonder if this is whats crashing the system? When something is trying to write to the hdd. - the updates. |

| 452840 | 2006-05-07 07:18:00 | Ok heres where Im at.. have reinstalled again this time I installed a network card I had lying around. Started IE6SP1 update (deliberately using XP update) and downloaded the 98 version off the net. Once that had installed and I rebooted (no hang), I went to updates site and got all critical. Again they installed with no hangs. So its not the mobo, hdd, cpu or IDE cables. Any ideas what it could be then? CD drive (Liteon 48x CD Burner), PSU, other? Speedy: I doubt the BIOS AV is on, I would have to enable it and I havent |
