453103 2006-05-08 01:52:00 Whenever I either try to install it using a CD, or delete one of the components from add or remove, it gives me this error:

The patch package could not be opened. Verify that the patch package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer patch package.

Why am I getting this?

453105 2006-05-08 02:09:00 I was so close to finishing the setup, when it gave me an error .

EventType : office11setup P1 : {90110409-6000-11d3-8cfe-0150048383c9}
P2 : 11 . 0 . 5614 . 0 P3 : startcache P4 : 0 P5 : x P6 : x P7 : x

I don't know what happened . I clicked complete install, and it was installing, then it gave me this error . Do I need to do the office xp web components install first?

It says Microsoft Office Setup did not complete successfully . We are sorry for the inconvenience . It doesn't tell much about the error .

453106 2006-05-08 02:40:00 This bit P3 : startcache is whats causing the prob by the looks of it.

According to this site (www.officehelp.in) this means:

First, I believe that the Startcache error that you reported to Microsoft
(thanks for doing so, it really helps us determine how many people are
affected by this and why) it due to a corrupt or missing Local Installation
Source. Try running the LISTool to disable LIS so it can let you uninstall:

Then it points to this (www.microsoft.com)

Extract LisTool.exe and LisTool.chm to some location.

3. Run the GUI tool (LISTOOL.exe) and choose the Disable LIS option.
Click next. Select all the check boxes in the subsequent dialog. Then
proceed to Finish.

4. Try to install it again.

If you still can't uninstall Office, try these steps to get it completely
off manually (careful, these are for advanced users, you can do damage if
you're careless):

Then it points to the file you downloaded (msicuu2.exe). Run this again.

Then:

Close all applications.

Click Start menu-> Run, type "regedit" (without the quotation marks) in
the Open box and press Enter.

Expand the registry tree on the left pane and locate the following two
registry keys:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office

Right-click on this key and click Delete to delete those keys.

Delete the following folders:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office.

C:\Program Files\OfficeUpdate11

9. Click Start menu-> Run, type "%Temp%" (without the quotation marks) in
the Open box and press Enter.

10. Empty the %Temp% folder. (You can also use ccleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com) to clean temp files etc on the hdd).

Note: If some files can't be deleted, please skip them, which don't
influence the result of the troubleshooting.

11. Empty the Recycle Bin.

12. Restart your computer and install Office 2003.

13. Go to Office Product Updates Web site to check for all available updates (office.microsoft.com)

453107 2006-05-08 02:50:00 Ok. Lets slow this down. I downloaded it. Sent it to my desktop. LIStool is on my desktop. What do i do now? I thought i had it down, but it gave me an error.

I am not trying to uninstall Office, I'm trying to install it with a CD.

453108 2006-05-08 03:01:00 It keeps giving me that error when I install Office. I get so close to the end, and it gives me that error. MNP188 (10371)
453109 2006-05-08 03:03:00 I know you're trying to install, the prob is, u may have had previous versions of office installed .

Which is why it wont install . You have to remove all traces of office before you can install it again .

3 . Run the GUI tool (LISTOOL . exe) and choose the Disable LIS option .
Click next . Select all the check boxes in the subsequent dialog . Then
proceed to Finish .

Thats what u do now if you've got the file on the desktop .

Follow the steps in my previous post, or go to the site I posted, which says the same thing .

453110 2006-05-08 03:05:00 I download LISTOOL onto my desktop and it comes up as a picture of like a window and then a box, and then says LISTool. It doesnt say anywhere to extract it. MNP188 (10371)
453111 2006-05-08 03:08:00 I send it then to My Documents. Click on it, and it gives me an error. "The Local installation source tool has encountered an error: 0x80070002. Contact microsoft product support for further assistance. MNP188 (10371)
453112 2006-05-08 03:46:00 Does it give u the option I posted to disable LIS??

When you run Listool . exe? If so, do whats typed below .

Run the GUI tool (LISTOOL . exe) and choose the Disable LIS option .
Click next . Select all the check boxes in the subsequent dialog . Then
proceed to Finish .
