452972 2006-05-07 10:06:00 I have no sound when playing a dvd in wmp10, video playback is normal. Sound is ok with an audio cd. dvd video & audio playback is normal with Nero Showtime. I have a soundblaster live card & built in audio on the mb. I normally use the mic input on the mb for headphone mic & the speakers via soundblaster for audio when videoconferencing on msn, this is to eliminate feedback. There are no conflicts in device manager. The problem started when I plugged in decent stereo headphones into the mb speaker socket & changed the default audio playback from soundblaster to mb. It worked ok, sound in headphones was ok. When I changed it back to soundblaster for default audio output win media player was silent.
Any clues ?

452973 2006-05-07 20:46:00 I'm surprised it didnt screw up,

If the onboard soundcard wasnt disabled, before the Soundblaster Live SC was installed.

I take it, the speakers are shielded?? Since you have to use both soundcards, just so you dont get feedback.

Or wouldnt muting the mic under sound / sound playback do the same thing??

Stop the feedback?

452974 2006-05-08 09:20:00 I've used 2 separate soundcards (for want of a better description) for ages & had no problem. If you use the mic in the wecam it picks up the speaker sound & goes for an infinate loop. Having the mic separate & hanging round my neck eliminates this problem. I tried using the soundblaster mic socket & it didn't like it. I tried a video conference last night & the mic's stopped working too now, mmmmm. All because I had the audacity to play a dvd. 452975 2006-05-08 12:21:00 I think you can nominate which hardware device to use for like recording & playback. Check the settings under the sounds and audio icon in control panel.

To be honest, i would never run 2 sound device on windose, even if there were no conflicts.

Would be better to use shielded speakers & mic etc. Have never had bad feedback on sound blasters thou on-board audio chip are prone for this.

452976 2006-05-16 10:23:00 Problem solved. Windows lost the codec. Somehow it fixed the mic fault too Phil B (648)
