453667 2006-05-10 06:28:00 I wanted to upgrade a HP pavilion 513a from 128m to 512m of RAM. The RAM it had was DDR 266. I coulndn't get any 266 so i ordered 333. In the meantime i tried some 400 in it and it worked fine. I picked up the memory today and saw that the 'chips' were on both sides of the memory board. The 128 memory that i was replacing on had these 'chips' down one side of the board. Anyho, i installed the mempry, Windows XP starts to boot but all the colours on the boot screen are dodgy and then i get the BSOD.
Is this memory wrong, i was thinking maybe it was a SIMM that i got instead of a DIMM. Or is the memory faulty?? HELP!!!

The new memory i got is VDATA DDR333(2.5)Mx16

453668 2006-05-10 06:49:00 I think it may have been better to have posted this in your original thread here (www.pressf1.co.nz) as that one contains information regarding your system that may be useful to helpers. FoxyMX (5)
453669 2006-05-10 06:56:00 take the old one out and just run the new one (it needs to be in the same slot as the old one). if it still has problems replace the ram. tweak'e (69)

453671 2006-05-10 06:57:00 So, technically no you cant use 333 (PC2700), or DDR400 (PC3200).

The HP site, says this system only supports PC2100 (266), or PC1600 (200)

333 or 400 may work, but whether its stable is another matter.
