| 453507 | 2006-05-09 12:22:00 | Have 2Mbps plan with IHUG. I thought I used to get close to 2Mbps on downloads too when i measured it. However last few weeks felt it was slower and tested it on various NZ download speed tests including Ihug and would get arround 250 - 300 Mbps over the last few days. I phoned IHug and was told that was normal I should only expect 300kbps and could not get 2Mbps measured download speed. I argued a bit because I thought they were confusing bits with bytes and stuff but ended up feeling I was in error. I log my download speed using netmeter but dont archive it for past weeks. Am I going mad is there something I am missing on the math here? |

And yeah, they probably meant 300 kBytes/sec. Anyway, it seems everyone is getting shyte speeds these days, so join the club :-/ |

| 453509 | 2006-05-09 22:03:00 | yeah I meant 300 kbps No I kept on asking Ihug about the bits and bytes thing and they said 300 kbps / 38 kBytes/s download was normal for the 2Mbps connection. They said that the connection speed was not the same as the download speed. What I meant to ask was there is no physical reason that a 2Mbps should only be 300 kbps download? So the download speed is not normal, but poor quality? Didn't it used to be faster before or is my memory letting me down ? Is this just an Ihug thing or are other providers only expecting download speed to be 1/10 the connection speed? |
