453385 2006-05-09 01:24:00 I'm looking at buying a viewsonic LCD moniter, but am having trouble working out the actual difference between two of their models, the VX922 and VX924. I gather that the 924 is a newer model, but all of the specs look the same (if anything, the 922 is better - faster response time, better contrast) and yet the 922 is a hellova lot cheaper: ~$500 for the 922 compared to around $800 for the 924.

The 17" version of the 924, the VX724 also sells for around $500, which means 2" for free if I bought the 19" 922...?

So, what is wrong with the 922? Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

This is really confusing me (or maybe I'm just to cynical for my own good and this is just a good deal), after years of following the standard guideline: if it looks too good to be true, it probably is.

for anyone who wants to have a look at the specs

453387 2006-05-09 05:21:00 Yes I know, and this is my point. Why would the panel with a better response time and better contrast (VX922) be $300 cheaper than the seemingly less advanced panel (VX924)? rusty_knifenz (4065)
453388 2006-05-09 05:51:00 I suspect it's the same reason why gasoline prices jump instantly when there's a new disaster-du-jour, before the gas stations could have possibly purchased any new stocks.

Not so long along Gigabyte had a similar quirk with high-end board with a more expensive Zalman cooler selling for cheaper than the exact same model with a squirel cage cooler.

I'd put it down to a supply-chain quirk, and count yourself lucky.

453389 2006-05-09 05:53:00 There was a big dealer price drop on the VX922 at the end of last month so that'll be why it is cheaper now.
It is probably end-of-life so not getting made anymore and the VX924 is it's replacement. Who knows why it is better spec'ed than the new model

453390 2006-05-09 12:22:00 Just to confuse things the VX922 is now the only VX model avialable,I am a Viewsonic reseller and the latest price list has no VX924 listed.
Buy the VX922 and enjoy it,its the latest model,$500 to $600 is the right price.
cheers,
John.

I've had a VX 924 for the past six months and would highly reccomend it .Probably the cheaper one is aimed at a different sector of the market. It may be just as good.
Anyway the vx 924 is as close to perfect as you can buy.
