| 453342 | 2006-05-09 01:16:00 | I have a 10GB partition for windows XP and if I select everything in the C: it comes to about 4.5GB. Yet if I check the C: drive's properties, it says I only have about 500MB left. Where has it all gone? I'd hate to think the solution is to give it more space, it may just gobble it all up again. Thanks Glenn |

(If not visible, in Explorer, click on the Tools menu, select folder options, then view and scroll down to Hidden files and folders and select show hidden files and folders and then click ok.) Don't delete anything in this folder as it is used by Windows System restore. Rather, you can change the amount of space allocated to system restore for that partition within the system restore settings if you want to free up some space. Also be aware, that reducing it will mean that the maximum number of restore points you can have will be less. Hope that helps I have a 10GB partition for windows XP and if I select everything in the C: it comes to about 4.5GB. Yet if I check the C: drive's properties, it says I only have about 500MB left. | 453346 | 2006-05-09 03:05:00 | SpaceMonger ( . werkema . com/software/spacemonger . html" target="_blank">www . werkema . com) is a really good tool for seeing where all the space on your hard drive is being used . Not long ago I discovered a humongous unused system file residing on my hard drive that wasn't visible in Windows Explorer and was able to delete it with SpaceMonger . Without SM I wouldn't have even known it was there . Having said that, be very careful what you delete when it comes to Windows files . I knew my one was unused and obsolete from its date and properties and due to the fact that the drive had held a backup of Windows previously . |

Long and short of it, the drive properties is the figure you need to worry about. The disk cleanup wizard can help Start... Programs ... Accessories ... System Tools ... Disk cleanup. |

| 453349 | 2006-05-10 04:05:00 | Try this. C:\Documents and Settings\All Users.WINDOWS\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson This is the stuff that get sent to microsoft when it phones home. Its in the form of a log file and it can get massive if you have had any system problems. I had one once 1.5Gb. Just delete it. Then go to Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services>Error Reporting Service>Right click>Properties>Startup type and disable it. Reboot Windows. Ian |

| 453350 | 2006-05-14 22:18:00 | Thanks for the help. One of the first things I did was do the disk cleanup but for some reason I kept only the default options checked. Checking everything has now freed up about an extra 800MB but the properties didn't show this until I rebooted. The Dr Watson folder was fine. 1.3GB is much better breathing space for windows. I'll try out those apps that were mentioned too. There's still a lot of space unaccounted for. Glenn |
