453845 2006-05-23 15:57:00 Without doing any research I presume Macbook is like an Imac apple ?

I would choose the sony instead because of windows Xp.Althought I wouldn't choose sony either as its too expensive.

I would go for a different brand laptop perhaps acer?

There's a few about 30 imac apple computers at the massey computer lab which is used by students if want to just surf the net or do assignments.

One day I went to the lab and had to use a imac because all the pcs was in use.

It was very frustrating using Imac. Most of the websites just doesn't load or fails to load.I just can't bear using Imac.!!Support is an issue.

Imac reminds me of windows 3.1....!!! :badpc:

You realise you can run Windows XP on an intel based mac, do you?
You realise you can run Firefox on a mac? You were probably using that horrible Internet Explorer for the mac, which hasn't been updated for a very long time.

Also the iMac ranges from the coloured CRT based ones to the, lamp style with an LCD screen, all the way through to the Intel based iMac. Vastly different machines.

Most of the websites just doesn't load or fails to load.I'm guessing gibler is on the right track assuming that you were using the Mac version of IE. Microsoft is no longer developing it, and it was last updated in 2001. As it doesn't support CSS properly (mind you, IE6 for Windows doesn't either) many sites won't load correctly. Most Mac users use Safari or Firefox. Both are standards compliant and should load 99.9% of sites accurately. :)

453848 2006-05-24 07:09:00 Very good point. I'm yet to encounter a site which Safari can't load (there's even some that Firefox won't but Safari will). If you say it feels like Windows 3.1 then it's possible the iMac may be running Mac OS 9 or earlier. technicianxp (6463)

Yes, indeed IE is interesting with the mac users I help out. I get requests such as "please install IE 6 on my mac". Safari is a bit annoying as Apple don't update the versions from older versions of OS X. I often try to recommend Firefox as at least annoying websites seem to start be testing their websites actually work with that (most don't even know what a Mac is).

The concept of "there are other web browsers" seems to really confuse a good bunch of people

Can someone with either of these try using this site:

Companies (http://www.companies.govt.nz)

on the left click "Search the Companies Register", then "Register Search", then search for one & double click on it. Once the details are up on the right it says " View Certificate Of Incorporation", try that & tell me what happens.....on IE it continues to the next screen....on my Netscape It doesn't work, would be interested to see how another mozilla based browser handles it...if it can continue past that point :)

All in all so far so good with the mac......ONLY issue is there is no way to print from I-Photo onto here Canon Selphy CP400...prints from everything else just not I-photo. She can manage with Photoshop no prob though so not the end of the world :)

Have no idea :waughh:

Spent over an hour on the phone with the apple techs & they ran out of idea's & pretty much came to the conclusion it was a "Canon" issue . Canon TRIED to help by testing the same thing on a mac at there end but didn't have the LATEST OS that is on the mac books (and used a powerbook if that makes a difference) and couldn'y generate the same fault .

Funny thing is the printer use's flashing led's to tell faults etc . (as most printers do) and it is BLUE when good & working, and red when there is an issue . The manual ONLY explains what CONSTANT red flashing is . . . when we print from I-Photo the mac starts to process the printing & then the printer flashes red ONCE then goes back to blue (standby) and the mac just says printing stopped, if you ask it to try again same thing . . . . . . flashes red ONCE and back to blue with no print . Canon could not tell me what ONE RED FLASH means & I can't find anything online explaining ONE RED FLASH either :(

Look through the cups log . Fire up the Console app (in the utilities folder of the apps folder) .

Could be an issue with the driver not being Universal (through to a tiger issue - I've had a few HPs that have no Tiger drivers . . yet) .

try using rosetta ( . macosxhints . com/article . php?story=20060118090920979" target="_blank">www . macosxhints . com) . Grrr there a lot of printing issues with OS X .

check out printer repair center ( . fixamac . net/software/psr5/index . php" target="_blank">www . fixamac . net) too .
