453835 2006-05-11 06:50:00 As someone has said earlier it depends a lot on what you intend on doing with it. It seems most of the software is from Adobe, who make Mac versions of their titles too. If you could get the OS X versions of them you'd definitely get more stability and possibly performance (although I can't guarantee the second one).

Yes, but the Adobe apps are not Universal apps (they have to run via Rosetta which translates PowerPC apps to run on Intel macs) - so you take a performance hit. I've heard that they crash now and then on the Intel mac.

453836 2006-05-11 06:53:00 We have installed XP Pro on a G5 I-mac here at work & it has been ruuning great since we did it ( a couple of weeks ago), I even through some of my additional software like Nero, DvdXcopy, clean-up, microsoft anti spyware, spybot, adaware etc. on it and it took them fine. She has XP Pro and Adobe Photoshop already so I can just chuck it on....looks like Im going to have to slipstream SP2 and her XP Pro though as a bootable SP2 version is required to install it. I-photo, I-dvd etc. are all great programs, should be perfect for her video & photo editing etc.

Oh didn't realise that until now. Have found this PDF on Adobe's website and it doesn't really seem all that positive (at least for the consumers):

However the iLife suite should still fit the bill and if you need anything equivalent to Photoshop or Premiere then there's always Apple's Aperture and Final Cut (both of which are Universal applications).

Nope :) Im in retail.

I might not even need to install XP.....she might take to the mac OS & not worry about it...depends if I can get Chuzzle & sudoku etc. working on it ;)

The money you save buying the smaller one can go towards a monitor for home use

453843 2006-05-17 12:48:00 Hmmmm....small might be better for her, 14 day right of return, 28 day right of exchange!! might have to make the jump across to the smaller screen.

453844 2006-05-21 09:40:00 Checked it out today....only clicked the Macbook is the I-book repalcement, think she will stick with the Macbook PRO. Seems as the 1.83 has gone end of line the price has dropped so she will get a further $300 off the origional sole so that is something. Only difference with the "new" entry level is the processor starts at 2.0 ghz instead of 1.83 yeah....can live with that to save an additional $900 odd.
