| 453655 | 2006-05-10 09:19:00 | Recently had some wireless equipment at my place which I managed to update to use WPA2. Doubt anyone would've been able to get in after that, especially considering the fact that the range was hardly enough to cover my whole house. Despite this I did keep an eye on the connections list and found nothing more than my own three clients connecting to it. I once did try searching around for other networks in my area with some boosted reception wireless equipment (to be exact a 3Com USB wireless adaptor stuck in front of a sifter, connected to a laptop running netstumbler). Picked up about 3, of which 2 were unsecured. Hooked on to a single one to see if they had internet by loading up Google too. Nothing more than that though ;) . |

Just because YOUR range isnt good enough doesnt mean that somebody else cant come along with a stronger directional antennae and point it at your house from across the street. He couldnt get his laptops wireless outside his house, but yet his neighbours leeched for 2 months! I told him... He said exactly what you said "the range is pathetic"... ;-) p.77 huh? I have the March issue at work on my desk, will hafta have a re-read! :D Been dying to put my K-Jam to good use aye... |

| 453658 | 2006-05-11 01:09:00 | Instead of using the aerial on the client, can you put a good aerial on the router & improve the signal for even the most crappy wireless card? I've got my router upstairs & I want to have a computer connecting wirelessly from downstairs on the other side of the house. If my logic isn't flawed, I can replace one of the areials with a good directional one & keep the other one for the current coverage area. |

| 453659 | 2006-05-11 01:21:00 | Greven I have a Linksys wrt54g wireless router on the main machine and on the second a netgear wireless card separated by a floor (upstairs)and across the building and it has been working well for a few months now. The only change I consider is instead of the wrt54g I may put a wag54g. |
