| 453358 | 2006-05-09 01:26:00 | What I should really do is set up a test machine here and actually do a backup and restore, to see how it works. | Greg (193) | ||
| 453359 | 2006-05-09 03:13:00 | What worries me regarding using Windows backup is that it may only work on the version of Windows that the backup was made . A few people have posted here asking how to restore backups made on Windows 95 or 98 or whatever and weren't able to as they were using a newer version of Windows . I far prefer to just make straight copies to another hard drive, CDs or DVDs than muck about with the Windows backup . If the files need to be compressed to save space then zip them up with WinRar or whatever . |

The external HDD is only 18 GBs and I have over 20 to backup. Does the Windows programme shrink the files up? Thanks to all who have replied to this ancient bloke, greatly appreciated. | 453362 | 2006-05-09 04:58:00 | Does the Windows programme shrink the files up? Pretty sure it will only compress (shrink) the backup file if you are backing up to a tape drive and then the tape drive must support compression. |
