| 454247 | 2006-05-11 23:20:00 | Hi everyone . This is my second post and still trying to get info on above computer . I want to format my HD and start again - there's too much rubbish on the HD to try and weed out . Problem is, I cannot get Smart Restore to do what it should . Everything is legit . . . Master CD's and Floppy were made with smart restore and checked out OK . Booting from the floppy, I get as far as Extracting Tools . . . then . . . Bad command or filename . . . Exit from OEM Setup . I know there are hardware changes since new and one is the original CD/DVD drive died on me and I replaced it with a DVD writer . Unfortunately I am unable to find where I can get the original config specs on it to be able to start again . Apparently my computer doesn't exist when I try to get info via the PB website . If anyone can help I would appreciate it . If there's anyone in Dunedin that could help . . . even better !! |

Generally my advice would be a rebuild from the Windows XP CD, and failing that try a floppy boot disk "How to obtain Windows XP Setup boot disks" support.microsoft.com However Packard Bell uses ... how to put this gently ... inexpensive hardware, so you might find your LAN / sound / video / USB drivers don't work as expected. Could you post some details regarding your system, the more the better |

The CD drive that died was a Sony, inexpensive maybe, but in 3 1/2 years have never had any real problems . The ones I am having now are probably due more to the number of changes that have been made to the system over that time . If anything is at fault, it is the operator, not the computer hardware itself . |

Why do you need a floppy? You should be able to boot straight off the restore CD . Theres PCGear in Dunedin . . . |
