454082 2006-05-11 10:17:00 Anyone know how these compare? I havn't been able to find benchmarks.

I want numbers, not just '6600GT will spank the 4200' or whatever might come up.

I got my cousin hooked on rFactor, and he is complaining about poor graphics. No textures on the roads etc.

Not sure if his pc can handle it or not, he has a geforce 4 Ti 4200. I just want to check if a 6600GT is much of an improvement, so that I can recommend a new card to him if he wants to get one.

454083 2006-05-11 10:29:00 Its worth it, depending on the rest of the rig. Metla (12)

Sorry .. but the true answer is '6600GT will spank the 4200' :p

Anyway, it's hard to compare these two cards as they're generations apart.

Although one is 3Dmark03 and one is 3Dmark05, but have a look at the Ti4200 vs 5900Ultra in 3D03 and then have a look at the 5900Ultra vs 6600GT in 3D05 might give you some idea...

See the Tomshardware benchmarks.

Of course its better its 2 generations past the Ti4200 for one thing.
Theres no support for the 4x series now in a lot of games. My son has one and as I keep telling him - time to upgrade the whole PC...

454086 2006-05-11 21:48:00 Hey, thanks SKT174.

I see the 2004 has a 6800 and a 4200 on the same benchmark.

I think the 6600gt is about the same as the 6800? Maybe minus 5 % without AA and AF, but pretty close.

So a 6600GT seems to be about twice as good as the 4200. Except for 3dmark, where it was like, 4 times as good.

I will have to find out what the rest of his specs are. I believe he has somewhere around a 2ghz/2000+ cpu.

Oh, and he got GT Legends instead of rFactor, because he is on dialup, and he managed to get GT Legends on a cd from somewhere, but not rFactor.

Metla, do you know if I could post him my rFactor install file, so he could just buy then reg code, and not have to download it?

:D
Of course. His mother is a pctek and he likes games. So he knows the need for the endless upgrade cycle.
His dad on the other hand gets pained looks whenever I mention upgrading mine....so I just do it and don't bother mentioning it anymore. :D

454089 2006-05-11 22:58:00 I went from a 4200 TI to a 6800 LE 128mb card. There was a 100% improvement in graphics quality. It made my old games look like new games with detail I had never seen before.
