454816 2006-05-14 06:02:00 Where do PF1 members get updated device drivers from? Does anyone use 'Driver Detective' ($us 29.95) or is there a better site? I guess the advantage of paying is that these programs do a scan of my computer and know which drivers will suit. What do others do?

Cheers

454817 2006-05-14 06:06:00 Depends what the driver/s is/are for .

I wouldnt bother paying for something to tell me what I need .

If its for the mobo, or something for this system, I go to the ASUS site .

Or to the manufacturer's site for updated drivers .

Just dont use the Windowsupdate site for drivers .

If your system was ok before you went here, it wont be after you leave .

454818 2006-05-14 06:15:00 I have found Driver Detective pretty useful. I paid the $29.95 registration and thought it was good valuefor monry. Grunter (10202)
454819 2006-05-14 06:42:00 i object to pay $$$ to get something the manafactures offer for free !

either use the drivers offered by the brand manafacture (ie asus, leadtek, msi etc) or use the generic by the chipset manafacture (ie intel, nvidia, via etc).

you also might want to look at the modded drivers ie drives modified by fans for better performance.

for the real geeks, flashing the product so you can use a different brand drivers altogether ;)

454820 2006-05-15 01:51:00 I'd have to agree .

Manufacturers usually make it pretty easy to find updated drivers on their web-sites, since they don't want expensive calls to their helpdesk .

No offense intended, but Driver Detective seems like a bit of a ripp-off .
