| 454774 | 2006-05-14 03:02:00 | Hi Folks, When I connect via dial-up, my computer freezes for about five minutes. During this time, if you click an item on the desk top, the little hourglass appears, but nothing else happens. It seems to be something to do with the start bar down the bottom. After about 5 minutes, it comes back to life, and the things I clicked on while it was frozen happen then. Sometimes it happens when connecting, and sometimes when disconnecting from the dial-up connection. It does it whether I access the dial-up connection from inside an application or from the desktop. I run Windows XP Pro with SP2 on an AMD 1.4Ghz processor with 256 MB RAM. If anyone can tell me how to fix this, I'd be very grateful. Yours, Joe Davies |

| 454776 | 2006-05-14 03:18:00 | So this only happens when initiating the modem and no other time? Has it only just started to happen? What happens if you go CTRL-ALT-DEL and then select "Task Manager" and the Process tab. Look for explorer.exe and end the process. Then select "New Task" from the bottom and enter in explorer.exe to restart it. Have you got the latest drivers for your modem, or tried reinstalling them? |
