| 454558 | 2006-05-13 06:05:00 | hello all, i have recently purchased a new packard bell pc from harvey normans. i got quite a good deal and managed to screw out of them some nice extras. however they wouldn't shift on doubling the ram for me (currently 512 mb). i said, no prob, i'll put some extra ram in myself (i know what i'm doing in that respect). they say, no way, you'll invalidate your warranty. my question- how would they know? if the pc dies and i take the ram out again before taking it to be fixed. i know there is a hidden partition on the hard drive. does this log any changes and if so what? does it log anything at all? many thanks in advance! |

| 454559 | 2006-05-13 06:10:00 | Can you find anything on terms and condition of the warranty for your computer? I suspect this is just a ploy to encourage customers to purchase hardwares as well as their services from Harvey Normans. Cheers :) |

However they will have records to show that you bought a computer with so much RAM. If they get it back with double the RAM then there will be a suspicion that someone opened the case. Having said that I do not believe you void the warranty unless they can prove you did something to cause a fault. |

| 454565 | 2006-05-13 06:40:00 | From HP's website: The warranty on your HP product will not be affected by the installation of a non-HP upgrade/option unless your HP product is damaged as a result of installation and/or operation of a third party option, such damage will not be covered by HP warranty. Unless there is a huge seal on your case saying "voids your warranty" I can't see the problem. I don't think many manufacturers have a "you shall not open the case" anymore.. Harvey Normans ... I can feel them going for my wallet, just as I enter the store.. |
