455409 2006-05-16 21:32:00 I have 2 computors networked XP-ME . On the one with ME when you start up you get a logon screen . This screen is before windows starts and is called a Network Logon .How do i get rid of this login ???? iancorpe (1367)
455410 2006-05-16 22:09:00 I think its needed, so it gets on the net and the password sticks.

I think 98/98SE was the same. if you didnt login to windows, the password wouldnt stick either. When u logged onto the net, or got email.

Altho, I never had the unfortunate opportunity to use ME :yuck:

455411 2006-05-16 22:54:00 I assume you're talking about a home LAN.

You can configure any Windows machine to autologin, but it's not recommended for obvious security reasons.

Software called TweakUI is available from Microsoft for both O/S if you're not comfortable messing with the registry.

"How to turn on automatic logon in Windows XP"
support.microsoft.com

It's similar for Windows ME, except the registry key is

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Winlogon

DefaultUserName "your_username"
DefaultPassword "your_password"
AutoAdminLogon "1"
DontDisplayLastUserName "0"

455412 2006-05-17 01:58:00 That username/password is for the Microsoft Network client which is your LAN, Network Neighbourhood, etc. Remove that, and you aren't networked to your XP machine. It's got nothing to do with the Internet (except if the ME's access is through ICS on the XP machine.) Graham L (2)
