455699 2006-05-18 07:57:00 Hi Team,

Running a windows XP machine on an Intel P4 3.0e chip with a 512meg chip of DDR ram.

While in windows and playing music through Winamp or videos through VideoLAN (VLC) the sound will stutter like as though i am holding down the pause button and its going pause/play/pause/play etc. for half a minute or so.

It also happens occassionally with anything that is trying to make sound, e.g. Outlook express' new mail sound. I alsonotice system lagging, not too bad but enough to annoy.

I checked Windows Task Manager during a few of these issues, and the process themselves were showing nothing abnormal, yet the performance window was. It was showing CPU usage at about 65%. As this is a HT CPU it shows a left and right graph for it. The left one is sky high @ 50% of total power. (top of the graph) The right hand one is making up the rest of the 65% or so with about 15%~ usage.

What could be causing this issue? I am getting a Radeon 9800 Pro soon and am thinking of reinstalling windows anyway, could this fix the issue?

Sorry about the spelling I'm not well at all at the moment.

Regards
Brendon
