2015-06-10 04:50:00 | Hi, Have just removed MSSE and installed NOD32. All went well until it attempted to update the virus database. Have been trying to update for several days now and it keeps falling over. I am sure the problem is due to my internet connection which is like wading through custard. We are awaiting the installation of ultrafast fibre but there is one person in the right of way who has not signed a consent form. Goodness knows when that issue will be resolved. Have been visited by someone from Transfield and the point of entry to the house and the positioning of the router etc. were agreed. In the meantime I am putting up with a copper line and dial up. Not only is the line speed very slow but the connection fails on a regular basis (several times a day and sometimes at 5 min intervals). Sometimes I can maintain a connection for several hours but this is not long enough for large downloads. I am fairly sure that this is the problem with updating the NOD32 database. I am wondering if there is a way of solving the issue of large downloads by using a down load manager? Didn't have a problem with MS and their downloads play nicely - i.e. if there is an interruption the download doesn't fail but resumes when the connection resumes. I don't really want to go back to MSSE but I may have to if I cannot resolve this updating issue. By the way, I don't update other software if the file is >50MB and there is no means of pausing/resuming the download. I know it will fail and I will just get frustrated with multiple attempts. I would appreciate any suggestions - assuming that a download manager can be used with NOD32. Thanks in advance for any help. Michael

2015-06-10 05:08:00 | try getting the offline Installer instead of the online. Its roughly 73MB, and while there will be updates after that there wont be as much. Offline installer --- www.eset.com (www.eset.com) A suggested Download manger, WITH resume Support is Internet Download Manager - Has a 30 Day Trial works great, use it all the time: www.internetdownloadmanager.com (http:) As you can see by the Picture below, it has resume support, and downloads the files from various sources :) 6517

2015-06-10 05:36:00 | Thanks for the response Wainuitech, I doubt that I will be able to download the offline installer (didn't know about that) because of its size. The update I was trying to download I think was 59MB and I haven't succeeded with that. By the way, how does the offline installer differ from a disc? I purchased my copy on disc from PBTech. Can I take it from your reply that I could use IDM in conjunction with NOD32 or am I reading too much into your reply? Thanks for your help. Michael

MichaelThe Offline installer From Eset will be more up to date than the CD. The CD could be 6 months out of Date. I just installed the Offline on a Windows 10 to see if it works Ok ( it does) and there was 21MB of updates come through. (Suggestion) Install the The Internet Download Manager , Once installed, download Nod32 ( or any other program) as you normally would and a save box will open ( see Pic) If it stops its meant to carry on when it starts again. Some sites don't allow resume, Eset Does. IDM its self is 5MB. 6518 You cant download the Virus definitions as offline updates unless you have the business editions Of Nod32, With the home editions its online updates only. |

2015-06-15 03:27:00 | Hi Wainuitech I have installed IDM but I am still having problems. I suspect I don't have IDM set up correctly or perhaps I haven't understood how it works. I am having problems downloading the update(s) for the virus signature database. This is because I am unable to maintain an internet connection long enough to complete the download. It is interrupted and hence fails to complete. What I was hoping was the with IDM I would be able to restart the process after an interruption. If this is possible then how should I set up IDM so that it does this? Many thanks for your help. Much appreciated. Michael

2015-06-15 05:25:00 | IDM wont help with the actual updates. Nod32 when you use the online installer brings through the complete program as well as the updates. The online installer is only 1.7MB and is used to start the main program download. If you used IDM and got the offline installer then the file is about 73MB (IDM WILL work with that) Then after Nod32 is installed, it will then run and any further updates downloaded. You cant download the updates as individual files to install off line unless you have the Business editions of Nod32. IDM should pop up automatically when you click on the OFFLINE link posted previously, you select your OS / Language and click Download, jumps to the next page saying download will start soon - IDM pops up and grabs it . What "MAY" stop it is if you are using some sort of pop up blocker. Just clicked on the link I posted in #2 and this is exactly what happened. 6523 I stopped it after a few seconds, and then restarted again. It did ask if I wanted to carry on or start again - let it carry on and away it went again from where it stopped previously.

2015-06-15 22:39:00 | If your internet is so bad you cant download NOD's updates, perhaps you should consider another AV program that you CAN manually download just the updates , and resume interrupted downloads of those updates.

2015-06-15 23:05:00 | Its not the Antivirus that's the problem, its the connection. In the meantime I am putting up with a copper line and dial up---- Not only is the line speed very slow but the connection fails on a regular basis (several times a day and sometimes at 5 min intervals) if the line cant handle 20MB, then general browsing, or downloading of anything including any other AV will be like pulling teeth.
