| 1402295 | 2015-06-09 06:05:00 | I'm a teacher who works with Deaf / Hearing Impaired students that utilise sign language - so videos are obviously the best mode of communication. We often have days called KIT Days where students from around the regions get together to meet other deaf students etc - as most of the time its just themselves in a hearing/mainstream school. I often get the impression alongside comments that students would LOVE to be able to continue communicating with students from around the region any other times NOT just on that one day a term....so Ive been thinking - Wouldn't it be great to have a website where students can post a video conversation to someone else they want to talk to? and the student can reply in video as well? As we are trying to foster friendships amongst these students. I would love it to be something thats already set up - yes facebook is around but we are talking about students who are 7-8-9 so facebook is probably a no no. my only requests are - must be locked down and only accessible by students and moderated by staff - students must be able to upload videos to the MAIN page - OR to a private conversation they're having with a chosen friend and others must be able to reply to either the video on main page OR to the conversation -must be able to be accessed on school network I thought of G+ but wasnt sure about the video aspect where u can privately message someone via video? as thats probably the main thing that cannot be done can it? I am looking to trial it with 2-3 students before allowing others so am willing to give a few sites a go to find something that works - and am adaptable. Hope someone can help with some ideas and would be much appreciated. |

I usually take up these opportunities to develop these services, working on similar at the moment, but age is my issue here and not something I want to carry guilt for if something goes wrong. Cheers, KK |

Maybe someone like http://www.deafchildren.org.nz/ Doing a google search there's plenty of Sites overseas that you can send video chats (for the hearing impaired) Example: http://www.purple.us/ But dont know if you can upload videos as you want. |

Once set up you can upload just about anything and play from there ie teacher uploads and shares only catch all users accessing must have a google account ie gmail or google domain account. Ie all of our student belong to our google domain account ****@****.SCHOOL.NZ which actually a google domain. another advantage of this once the video is uploaded google optimizes it for streaming over the internet. have a look at this (www.alicekeeler.com) |
