1402286 2015-06-09 04:54:00 I have a Toshiba Satellite 3000 laptop with a Chinese language copy of w98se on it. I want to do a full reinstall of w98se (English) onto this laptop but it does not have an fdd. At the moment I do not have a usb fdd but still want to do the reinstall. I have got the w98se cd (with key).I have tried, without success, to find the info I need on the net. Can anyone please help. TIA Spooky spooky (4241)
1402287 2015-06-09 05:25:00 Be carefull. You may not be able to get any device drivers for something that old, leaving it with devices that will no longer work.
Try an install over the top.

Does 98 boot from the CD ? Been so long since I installed it.

1402291 2015-06-09 06:37:00 If you really are dead set on punishing yourself so, there are ISOs available with the Win98 installer, so you can burn it to bootable CD. AllBootDisks.com or BootDisk.com will have it somewhere. inphinity (7274)
1402292 2015-06-09 07:10:00 As long as you have a Win98 CD -- Here you go, step by step www.windowsreinstall.com

That had the old gray matter going LOL.

1402293 2015-06-09 08:58:00 I have tried to boot it from cd but every time I go into bios it will not accept the cd as a boot device. Thanks for the heads up about the availability (or not) of drivers so I am going to have to do an install on top of rather than a clean install. Is there something wrong with the laptop or with my fingers(!!!) I know its old and grey but it will do the job I have planned for it very well. TIA Spooky spooky (4241)

Is win still running ?
a few options to try....
run the install from inside windows
from win, shut down to dos, then run the install
on bootup, either F8 , F5 or F3 will boot to a DOS prompt (cant remember which) . May or may not give CD support
Try another BOOTABLE CD & see if you can boot off that (as a test). If the thing is so decrepid that it wont boot from CD , at all , and you have no floppy drive, then your options are limited.
