1402243 2015-06-08 13:55:00 Hey so by Windows Update I got a "Free upgrade to Windows 10 " which i want to do but in a different way . I want to download just the iso and make it like a second boot option . I don't want to delete this Windows 7 64 bit , i still like Windows 7 and will always do .
So can anyone tell me how to do this " make it a second boot option " .

Also my other pc has Windows Enterprise and that i know is not able to get Windows 10 , i have seen over here people did say not all versions are covered . So i have been thinking to change Enterprise to Home premium so i can get Windows 10 . Now i don't think this one has other boot options but if anybody knows a trick , please share with me .

Its a HP 6530b .

Thanks

1402244 2015-06-08 19:53:00 Don't know if you can do that as the Win10 is a replacement for your original OS not an extra for free gary67 (56)
1402245 2015-06-08 20:10:00 MS were going to make it harder for you to dual boot anything with Win10. But I think they were talking about Linux

I would have a look here (answers.microsoft.com), if you want to find out what you can do with Win 10

Some of these posts say MS will let you get an ISO, after you upgrade to Win 10. Just like you can with 8.1

No point asking the question now really, all we can do is assume how it'll be. You won't be the only one wanting to dual boot windows 7 with the free upgrade, if it can be done someone will post a guide somewhere.

I dont think the dual boot is the question... its whether you can dual boot using your "free upgrade" license for Win10 as well as the Win7 license it replaces.

No doubt there will be workarounds for it like dugimodo suggested. We'll need to wait until its released before other folk get let loose on it :D

1402249 2015-06-08 21:51:00 I dual boot Win 10 with two PCs running win 7 no problems.. At the moment you can without any worries, BUT its only the previews.

What some want to do is have their cake and eat it to - meaning when they download W10 as an upgrade, and even make a DVD via the ISO keep both W7 & W10. In the past The way upgrades normally work is when W10 is upgraded it will deactivate the W7 / W8.1 license. I suspect if someone tried to use W7 still it will come back as invalid.

BUT as per normal MS appear to have changed the goal posts again  I Read that when you install W10 it looks for Hardware ID's on the PC, mostly the motherboard and other major hardware, so if you ever need to reinstall W10 from fresh a Product key is not required as it checks with the records on the activation Server and if the hardware matches it installs and activates.
This in a way is how the OEM's ( HP, etc) now work - you can reinstall windows on a new Hard Drive or as a fresh install and not need a product key as its embedded into the Motherboard, so as long as the right version is being installed it will carry on. If you try the wrong version for the embedded key it will prompt you for a key.

Of course the above is only what I've read from various places ( apart from the HP /OEMS, thats fact), so it will really be a waiting game to see what happens. NO ONE can accurately say what will Happen until MS actually make it official.

What will be interesting is if you have a multi user license :)

1402250 2015-06-08 22:04:00 What if I have a 'Retail' version of Win7? bk T (215)
1402251 2015-06-08 22:12:00 @paulw . You won't be able to re-use that win 7 key .

If you want to spend a few weeks reading about this stuff, go here . tenforums . com/forum . php" target="_blank">www . tenforums . com

1402252 2015-06-08 22:35:00 What if I have a 'Retail' version of Win7? Windows 7 will upgrade for free if you have a retail key.

Just read a few moments ago, that since Windows Media Center wont work any more after the upgrade, even though a person may have brought it for W8 , MS are "giving away" DVD playing software to compensate -- geeee how kind of them ;)

Plenty of other Free Players already that work just fine.
