A few weeks ago I downloaded Trend Housecall to check a couple of possible issues and it worked OK, but when I tried another check today, the download rocketed to 67% in a second or so, then went on a go-slow, incrementing by 1% every 5-10 minutes (I gave up at 70%).

Is this a limit placed on downloads/updates by Trend after your initial couple of scans, or is it a problem on their site?

1401879 2015-06-03 06:12:00 I've never had a problem with it taking a long time to download, but it does take a long time to scan.

If the download doesn't work, just reload the page and try again.... usually just a temporary problem. Had that with Nod32's online scanner the other day.

Cough: I did indicate that I had tried several times, but omitted to say that I had rebooted a couple of times as well, just in case.

I've tried again just now and it still loads normally but pauses at 67% and thereafter increments by 1% every 3-5 minutes.

I see no indication in your first post that you tried more then once on your second time using it cough
