1391121 2014-12-28 22:21:00 From PC World July 1995:

Web Browsers: Point 'n' click software for cruising the World Wide Web

"To find out which Windows based Web browser is the best we took 10 (note: this should have read 6) of them out for a spin. We chose three freeware programs (Cello, NCSA Mosaic, and Win Web), two semi-commercial browsers (Mosaic in a Box) and Netscape Navigator) and one all in one internet suite that includes a browser (Internet Chameleon)."

Netscape Navigator 1.0 came out top followed by Win Web.

No mention of Internet Explorer of course, Bill Gates had said the Internet would never catch on  But during 1994 were rushing to catch up and bring out a browser.

Microsoft brought out version 1 of IE in August 1995 based on Spyglass Mosaic, after the above PC World article was written.

....and thus began the browser wars.................

1391122 2014-12-28 22:56:00 Microsoft are STILL rushing to catch up and bring out a browser (that works half decently and is not primarily used - on new PCs - to download a new default browser).... johcar (6283)

When I was a kid we'd say "it ain't half decent" meaning it was fully decent :) It may have been a Brummie or Yamyam (Black Country) saying, not sure now.

Speaking of IBM, wasn't it Thomas Watson who said one computer would be sufficient to service the world's IT needs?
