1390588 2014-12-19 03:28:00 Just put the rates up again to pay for it, seems to be the answer to everything. wainuitech (129)
1390589 2014-12-19 10:30:00 Personally I hope Sky City abandon the convention centre. Their share price has been way down for at least two years ever since they announced the project. Stupid stuff. Winston001 (3612)
1390590 2014-12-19 18:47:00 Personally, I would prefer to see Sky City go broke; it would indicate that their former gambling customers have finally learned simple arithmetic.
Their criminal clientele could preferably go bankrupt with them.

:+1:

My father used to gamble on the horses but the only money made at the racetrack was by us (6) kids:

- collecting used tickets and comparing then against winners in the car on the way home (and throwing the dud ones out the window - as you did in those days)
- collecting soft drink bottles
- picking-up squashed possums on the road. We could post the ears somewhere and get 2/6 a pair. (You were supposed to trap them though)

It all came together one day when we got a puncture on the way home. Dad had to shift a heap of bottles and several smelly possums to get at the spare, on top of his usual loss...

I agree.

I have a few Sky shares but have never been comfortable owning them. Am inclined to get rid of them rather than support gambling.

Is it ?? Its looking like another dodgy as govt contract .
"Who will pay for the difference in funding costs over and above SKYCITY’s $402 million contractual obligation has yet to be decided"
"SkyCity chief executive Nigel Morrison says he expects the government to pay part of that and isn't interested in putting up an inferior centre."

Not sure why we need this. Just another white elephant .
Who really wants to go to grotty old Ak for a convention (ie holiday jaunt), when they could have it in LasVegas, Paris, London, LA etc

Watch how many NZ politicians go on Xmas hol ''convention" in some fabulous overseas location . happens most years .
They wouldnt bother if it was in Ak.

1390595 2014-12-22 00:31:00 It just gets better

"Once built, the convention centre was to have been operated and funded by SkyCity, but the Weekend Herald now understands a Government subsidy for ongoing operating costs is being discussed."
