1402081 2015-07-11 03:08:00 Getting frustrated, PBtech insisting on running more tests on hdd, still can't find any errors (despite me showing them the results on Crystal Disk yesterday and saying they would clone and replace hdd for me). :( Errrrrrrrrr Lets just say PBTech are not always the best, heard many complaints about them. (myself included when testing & asking about a warranty period, lets just say I told them what I thought about the time period - That's a different story) ;)

BUT have a read of this forum - At least the first two pages at least to post #16 www.overclock.net -- Sound familiar ?

1402082 2015-07-11 04:21:00 Ahh yeah, why can't they do as requested? Won't be getting it back today as they close at 3.30pm. They quoted me a discount on a new drive and no other charges so be interesting to see if they try and change that when I pick it up. Damn if I had a copy of windows I could have had it done myself by now, why do Microsoft do this to us? Frustrating as I'm stuck with an injury and wanted to catch up on bookwork the last few days while out of action. Danger (287)
1402083 2015-07-11 05:02:00 The "official ISO is available from MS for free. Go to windows.microsoft.com scroll down the page click on the "Create media" button, download the file - Run it Select your version - Language x64 - Second Window - Select ISO - Save it someplace. Then Burn the ISO and you have a install DVD. The problem is sometimes the Product key you have may not work.

Of course you will still need the drivers from HP to install all the functions.

1402084 2015-07-12 01:58:00 Finally they have removed my hdd and inserted it into another PC and heard a noise so are replacing as requested. And (because I'm a nice guy they said) they are attempting to clone my drive onto the new drive so I don't loose anything, no extra charges, told them everything was backed up, (you should of said so it would have saved us sometime, "well I did tell you") if no problems be ready today, but if the hdd damaged the windows operating system they will have to reload windows so won't be ready today. 1402085 2015-07-12 02:14:00 LOL some places try to cut corners and most of the time it backfires.

Do it right the first time and the over all job usually goes quicker ;)

Cloning a Damaged drive can have downfalls as well, esp if theres faults in the Operating system. Sometimes you can repair it by running chkdsk, other times its best to reinstall.

If they have to reload the OS, depending on how they do it doesn't take long, I can install Windows 7 -8.1 in about 10 Minutes with all the updates (using a sysprepped image) then of course you need the drivers to be installed, and I also run windows updates to get any newer drivers- that's what can take time.

1402087 2015-08-07 05:03:00 Well after 2-3 weeks of trouble free use, this Monday first thing the computer crashed, everything slowed to a stop, tried to restart and got a no boot disc error, imminent disc failure message etc, could not get the computer to start, tried everything I could think off, but no go. Packed it up back to Pbtech, plugged it in, ran a self check and started up trouble free!
We tried rebooting it several times, no problems, did a burn in test, all ok, as Pbtech said they could do nothing without seeing the problem so came back home and installed Crystal disc again, checked and no problems.
All ok for a few days then last night computer froze on the screen saver when I went to wake it up. Rebooted ok.
This morning computer would not start again, same messages, imminent disc failure, no boot disc etc, finally got it going again by toggling the on off switch rapidly. Ran burn in test and Crystal disc, again could find no faults.

Not sure what else I can do but back up after every use and hope for the best. If it dies completely then perhaps Pbtech can get to the bottom of the problem, very frustrating and the worse experience I've ever had with any of my computers.
