1401812 2015-06-03 01:32:00 Just seen (about 2 weeks ago) 2 laptops both running 8.1, one HP and the other Asus, after the WLAN driver update from Windows Update (set to auto update), failed to connect. Had to roll back the drivers to keep it working again! bk T (215)
1401813 2015-06-03 02:52:00 can't recall the last time I heard an Android or Apple user complaining about receiving OS updates :) I Don't use Apple products apart from a free Ipod mini I won once, and the closest Android I use is my phone, got a Tablet but hardly ever use it.

As others have mentioned MS updates sometimes cause more problems than they fix. That's why I normally leave them a week at least, that way the bugs have already been discovered and MS have fixed or pulled the update.

Seems a bit odd as to why MS would make it compulsory for the home edition to be FORCED to update where as the pro and above you can change it.

Please explain why that is (from a Microsoft point of view / Reasoning) ?

Windows doesn't trash itself when users can't wait for updates to install on shutdown Wanna bet :D. Got a W7 PC in the workshop right now the owner said it was installing updates and it was shut down while it was doing it. Now it gets to the windows logo and goes no further, after leaving it running for over 12 hours it was still the same.

ANOTHER very common problem over the last few months, Windows does some updates, then on startup boots to a black screen with a white cursor, even in safe mode, before the updates everything is running fine. Doing a system restore to before the updates fixes the boot problem.

1401814 2015-06-03 04:35:00 Because Pro and Ent are used in businesses where it makes more sense to download updates to a central WSUS server (or the new Business Update server that I can't recall the name of) rather than all clients downloading from MS. Alex B (15479)
1401815 2015-06-03 04:45:00 Because Pro and Ent are used in businesses where it makes more sense to download updates to a central WSUS server (or the new Business Update server that I can't recall the name of) rather than all clients downloading from MS. You'll know the answer to this, :p but do you know how many businesses use XP-W7 Home Edition and don't have any pro or above ---LOTS.;)

Same with Office, many use several of the Home 3 user edition instead of paying what many consider the over priced pro Versions. Even with Office 365 some use the home edition, 5 user which is Pro, lot cheaper than the business editions.

1401816 2015-06-03 04:58:00 I have seen a full blown medical center using an SBS server as a desktop and many of the workstations with home editions of Windows/Office. It was the stuff of nightmares and cost A LOT to put right.

It's not really MS's fault if they are incorrectly/under licensed or using the wrong product for the job. MS licencing, while I agree stupid expensive in some cases is just a cost of doing business. Office 365 Business sub is under $20 per machine per month, which removes the upfront shock cost and for a 2-3 man band, isn't bad value. HP/Lenovo/Whatever Business Desktop/Laptop usually aren't all that more expensive than a home user machine and tend to come with better warranty support, which is good considering you're not covered by the CGA.

1401817 2015-06-03 06:13:00 Of course they're giving Windows 10 away for free... nobody in their right mind would pay for it! Agent_24 (57)
1401818 2015-06-03 10:17:00 Having used win 10 since Oct I will happily accept two free copies and I am going to buy a copy for a Vista machine.

Cheap shot, Agent. I am certainly still mentally competent, not that that is any of your business.

:illogical My comment was intended as a joke, as evidenced by the laughing smiley on the end of it, and in any case was more aimed towards Microsoft and Windows 10 itself than anyone here.

If you do like it enough to buy it, that's great and I hope you enjoy using it. Each to their own and everyone should use what they like the most.
I personally think it's rather silly and have no great desire to use it, nor pay money for the privilege of a horribly defective start menu.

1401820 2015-06-03 21:15:00 horribly defective start menu That really describes it nicely. If people had problems with the W8.1 menu then this new one will be the same if not worse.

At least with W8.1 you can have what ever tiles you want on the start screen and the rest hidden away that you don't use, with this new one, on the left Everything is all thrown in one big untidy pile, you cant remove them unless you uninstall the program /app (last time I looked) only pin to start which moves them to the right. About the closest you can get is use the expand to full screen option and have what ever you want there. THANKFULLY they have retained the right click option to get to the older style options.

Showed a person yesterday W10 on my laptop-- the first comment when looking at the start menu was "whats this rubbish- are they joking or what, what a ****en mess"
